Site Waste Management Plans

The DTI has introduced Site Waste Management Plans (SWMPs) to tackle the issue of waste management on site, aiming to provide a structure for waste elimination, reduction, re-use, recycle and disposal at all stages of a construction project. SWMPs are set to become a legal requirement in April.

Wastefile UK are working closely with many corporates to implement site waste management plans, encouraging segregation at source as standard, to help them meet the ever-increasing waste disposal demands.

Wastefile UK conduct an initial site specific waste assessment for each contract, allowing employees to raise any issues and discuss concerns, and allowing Wastefile UK to determine:

  • Site size and physical constraints
  • Waste streams present and the most apporpriate segregation system
  • Location of the waste compound, where it could be best accessed by employees and drivers
  • Whether hazardous waste will be produced, and the most appropriate method of disposal
  • Full legislative and Corporate Responsibility compliance will be met

Following completion of the site survey, Wastefile UK will compile a Site Waste Management Plan, including authorised waste carriers certificate, hazardous waste guidelines and Wastefile UK contacts.

In addition, Wastefile UK will commit a dedicated representative to ensure adherence to the plan and resolve any waste issues. The representative will visit each site on a  set schedule to assess the process and produce a site progress report, highlighting waste tonnage, costs and movements.

With the availability of signage and tool box talks, Wastefile UK are committed to continued education on site, offering guidance, advice and support to each site from start to finish.
