The future generation of Barratt Homes
Wastefile UK have enjoyed a long and successful relationship with major house builder Barratt Homes, servicing all of their development sites nationwide.
Therefore we were proud to assist with the Groups recent Apprentices Seminar which took place at the new Southampton Football Ground on 25th May 2005. The day was a great success and delegates particularly enjoyed the 'Goody Bag' which was contributed to by Wastefile UK and various other main suppliers.
Wastefile UK look forward to working with the future generation of Barratt Homes and wish them every success in the future.
A brief history of our work with Barratt Homes
Since 2001 Wastefile UK have worked closely with Barratt Homes. Together we have established a clearly defined waste management policy, which has been incorporated systematically within the Groups planned objectives and targets.
Wastefile UK understands the importance of compliance and therefore has assisted the Group to comply with the provisions of their Duty of Care. Together we have implemented a carefully controlled auditable waste transfer system, which traces the waste from its creation to storage and segregation, collection and disposal or recycling and re-use.
Whilst significantly reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill, one of the Groups key objectives, Wastefile UK also have been commited to fulfil the Company's aim to actively integrate CSR as part of their normal business operations.
Performance to date
Together we have vigorously implemented these aims and objectives at all sites nationwide, and the Group can consequently point to a number of significant achievements including:
- 99% of the inert waste from Barratt Homes sites is recycled as hard core base for roads and pavements
- 100% of timber waste is reclaimed at one of three UK facilities
- 100% of paper and card, which is segregated, is baled for transport to paper processors
- 100% of metal waste, which is segregated, is transferred to a licensed waste facility for recycling
- 76% (39,156 tonnes) of waste is recycled and the remaining 24% (12,365 tonnes) of waste goes directly to landfill
Here's to the future
In addition to the objective set to minimise waste from the Groups business operations, Barratt Homes are now pursuing various initiatives in unison with Wastefile UK. Plasterboard and gypsum-based wastes contribute to the majority of the Groups landfill waste, therefore we are investigating the use of proven technology to implement a collection and recycling system for gypsum-based products.
Wastefile UK continue to endeavour to assist with the Groups continuous drive to achieve business sustainability and therefore reduce the Company's overall impact upon the environment.
