WEEE Directive takes effect

Initially due to become effective in August 2005, the WEEE directive finally became fully operational on 1 July 2007.

The directive places the onus on producers and retailers of electrical goods to ensure that this waste is recycled, and requires them to have registered with a compliance scheme.
